Salem Establishes Tourism Promotion Area

In January Oregon’s second Tourism Promotion Area to give a lift to the region’s tourism economy went into effect in Salem. Championed by Travel Salem and the Salem Area Lodging Association, the Salem Area Tourism Promotion Area (STPA) is a two percent fee assessed on guest room nights at lodging facilities within the city. The funds generated by the STPA will be used to support tourism marketing and sales efforts to further advance the region’s competitive position as a premier visitor destination. A Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) is also known as a Tourism Improvement District (TID). In 2012, Portland became the state’s first city to establish a TID.
